Reston is filling in two separate stretches of new restaurants at the same time, and they are not on the same block. One cluster is rising under the Skymark Apartments and the new Fannie Mae building, tucked along Inspiration Street and Opportunity Way a short walk from the Reston Town Center Metro stop. The other is building out one stop east at Reston Station, anchored by a name that has never expanded anywhere in its history until now.
If your errands run near the Pavilion but your dinners run near Wiehle, you have probably already noticed you're tracking two different opening dates, not one.
Under the Skymark Apartments and the New Fannie Mae Building
The RTC Next expansion has been filling in one tenant at a time, and two openings are worth slowing down for. Clarity, the Vienna restaurant that has operated at 442 Maple Avenue since 2015, brought its Reston debut menu closer to a special-occasion room than a neighborhood grill. The first courses include French onion soup, crispy basil burrata, steamed PEI mussels, and Hudson Valley foie gras, with mains like a five-spice short rib, pan-seared golden tilefish, and roasted Australian rack of lamb. That price point and that level of plating simply did not exist inside Reston before this.
A short walk away, Kusshi Sushi opened in April 2026 at the base of the new Fannie Mae building. It fills a gap that had bothered residents for a while: a sushi option that doesn't require booking a seat weeks out, unlike the reservation-only concepts that have been popping up elsewhere in the region. Paris Baguette rounds out the current lineup on that block.
None of this is happening in a vacuum. Reston Town Center already carries more than 50 retailers and 35 restaurants on its own account. RTC Next is not a first wave of dining options showing up in an empty district. It is new density stacking on top of an already crowded map, which is a different kind of signal than a restaurant opening in a place that had nothing before.
One Stop East, at Reston Station
The second cluster sits a Metro stop away, closer to Wiehle-Reston East. The name driving attention there is Ebbitt House, set to open at Reston Station in 2026 with a sprawling dining room, multiple bars, and a large outdoor patio. It is the first-ever expansion of Old Ebbitt Grill, the DC institution tied to the Clyde's Restaurant Group family, in the brand's entire history.
A restaurant that has stayed put in one location for as long as Old Ebbitt Grill has doesn't choose a second address on a whim. Operators making that kind of bet are not looking at a market they think has already peaked. They are looking at a market they expect to keep filling in for years, which is exactly what a first-ever expansion signals about Reston Station's trajectory.
Why the Fill-In Split Instead of Marching Down One Street
The two corridors are running on different clocks because they are tied to different construction timelines. RTC Next sits on top of housing that has already delivered. Skymark Apartments and the Fannie Mae building are occupied now, which is why Clarity and Kusshi Sushi are already seating guests. Reston Station's residential and mixed-use build-out is still catching up, which is why its anchor restaurant lands later in the year rather than this month.
That difference in timing is the actual story here, more than any single opening. A resident living closer to the Reston Town Center Metro stop already has a new place to eat tonight. A resident living closer to Wiehle is watching a corridor that will look very different a year from now than it does today.
| Corridor | Metro Stop | Anchor Buildings | What's New | Status as of September 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| RTC Next | Reston Town Center | Skymark Apartments, new Fannie Mae building | Clarity, Kusshi Sushi, Paris Baguette | Open |
| Reston Station | Wiehle-Reston East | Reston Station mixed-use blocks | Ebbitt House (Old Ebbitt Grill) | Opening later in 2026 |
The Calendar Still Runs Through One Address
Even with dining splitting into two separate corridors, the event calendar still funnels everyone back to the same spot. The Reston Multicultural Festival filled Reston Town Square Park and the Pavilion on September 19, and it did that on a Saturday competing directly with Cox Farms' fall kickoff weekend, Mount Vernon's Colonial Market and Fair, and the Taste of Annandale, none of which are in Reston at all. The festival held its own crowd anyway.
A few more dates are still ahead this fall:
- Fall Fun Fest at Reston Farm Garden Market opens for the season this weekend, September 26 and 27, with additional rounds running October 10 through 12 and October 17 through 18
- The Washington West Film Festival returns to LOOK Cinemas inside Reston Town Center from October 8 through 12
- ChalkFest brings live art, music, and an outdoor chalk gallery to the Pavilion on October 17
Whichever corridor you're eating in that week, the Pavilion is still where the weekend actually happens.
A Saturday That Uses Both Blocks
The two-corridor build-out changes what a single Saturday in Reston can look like without anyone touching a car twice. Park once near Inspiration Street, grab breakfast at Toastique, then walk north to the Pavilion for whatever is on the calendar that weekend. If dinner pulls you toward the newer room at Reston Station once Ebbitt House opens, that's a second stop within the same afternoon rather than a separate trip on a separate day.
Two restaurant corridors, two Metro stops, and one parking spot: that is what the current build-out actually hands a Reston resident who has no plans to go anywhere.
